SPIN – Space Placements in Industry, funding available

Press Release issued: Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

COMPANIES working within or alongside the space sector, or using space-derived data, could be missing a chance to link up with the most talented and enthusiastic undergraduates in the country.

Space Placements in Industry is an opportunity to use the skills of an enthusiastic and highly qualified student to work on company-specific projects for at least eight weeks during their summer vacation.

The programme is managed by Kathie Bowden, UK National Space Skills and Career Development Manager, who is based at the new Institute for Environmental Analytics at the University of Reading and supported by the UK Space Agency and the Satellite Applications Catapult.

She says: “These work placements offer companies a really tangible contribution to their business. You might just find the staff member of the future that you are looking for, at the same time as undertaking a project or piece of work you might otherwise not have the resources to complete.”

The scheme started in 2013 and has been a huge success. As a result, it is expanding and looking for more host organisations. Subject to certain criteria, the placement is subsidised for most companies. Find out more in time to host a summer 2016 SPIN placement, by emailing spin@reading.ac.uk
