The IEA has been awarded a £212,000 contract to produce Data Tree training – a free online data management course, supplemented with regional face-to-face workshops during 2018. IEA Training Manager Vicky Lucas shares the latest details:
Who is this free data training for?
Basically, this training is for anyone who creates and / or handles data created by themselves or others and those who access data for research. The training is aimed at:
- PhD students,
- early career researchers in universities or in business
- their supervisors who value best practice.
But the training is also open to all who want to branch out and improve their data skills, so spread the word.
Who is involved in Data Tree?
We have an impressive range of expertise on board, just waiting to share their knowledge. All are skilled in the practicalities of data management and passionate about sharing their skills. We will guide you through data handling for environmental science. We will talk about the issues arising from environmental data, from big data challenges of climate modelling, to dealing with physical samples, to challenges of widely-used public datasets, the issues of data citation, version control and the requirements of data repositories.
All this is backed by the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) and delivered by the Institute for Environmental Analytics (IEA), University of Reading, University of Oxford, the Digital Curation Centre, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Stats4SD and Wild Indie.
